The audiobook speed calculator applies a precise time-division formula to determine exactly how long it takes to finish any audiobook at a chosen playback speed. The formula is:
Tlisten = (H + M ÷ 60) ÷ S
Where H is the audiobook runtime in whole hours, M is the remaining minutes, and S is the playback speed multiplier. Dividing M by 60 first converts the full runtime into a single decimal-hour value, which the speed divisor then reduces to the actual listening time in hours.
Formula Derivation
At 1x speed, a 10-hour audiobook requires exactly 10 hours of listening. Increasing playback to 2x compresses every second of audio to half its original length, halving total listen time to 5 hours. The relationship is strictly inverse and linear: listening time equals total duration divided by speed.
