How to Calculate French Drain Installation Cost

Gravel Volume Calculation
The formula computes net gravel volume by subtracting the cylindrical pipe volume from the gross trench volume. Trench volume equals L × (W ÷ 12) × D in cubic feet. Pipe volume equals π × (P ÷ 24)² × L, where P ÷ 24 converts the pipe diameter in inches to the pipe radius in feet, and squaring it with π yields the circular cross-sectional area. Dividing the net volume by 27 converts cubic feet to cubic yards — the standard purchasing unit for bulk crushed stone.
