What Is the Warsaw Method Recruitment Points Calculator?
The Warsaw Method Recruitment Points Calculator computes the official admissions score used by Polish 8th-grade graduates applying to public high schools (licea ogólnokształcące) and technical schools (technika) in Warsaw and the Mazowieckie voivodeship. The scoring rules derive from the Polish Ministry of Education admissions ordinance and are administered locally by the Mazowieckie Kuratorium Oświaty. Total scores range from 0 to 200 points; the most competitive Warsaw liceum profiles have historically required 170 to 195 points to secure a place.
The Official Recruitment Formula
The total recruitment score P is defined as:
P = (E_pl × 0.35 + E_m × 0.35 + E_f × 0.30) + Σ g(Gi) + 7H + min(A, 18) + 3V
Each component contributes a capped number of points, and the sum of all maximum values equals exactly 200.
Component Breakdown
- 8th-Grade Exam — Polish (E_pl): Raw percentage score multiplied by 0.35. A perfect 100% earns the maximum 35 points.
- 8th-Grade Exam — Mathematics (E_m): Raw percentage score multiplied by 0.35. Maximum 35 points.
- 8th-Grade Exam — Foreign Language (E_f): Raw percentage score multiplied by 0.30. Maximum 30 points.
- Report Card Grades — four subjects: Final grades in four key subjects converted to points and summed. Maximum 72 points total (four grades of 6, each worth 18 points).
- Honors Certificate (świadectwo z wyróżnieniem): Adds 7 points when the student holds a grade average of at least 4.75 and a behavior rating of at least very good (bardzo dobry).
- Competition and Achievement Points (A): Points from documented olympiads, competitions, and recognized artistic or athletic achievements. Capped at a maximum of 18 points regardless of total earned.
- Volunteer Activity: Documented community service entered on the school certificate adds a flat 3 points.
Official Grade Conversion Scale g(G)
Polish ministerial regulation translates each 1–6 report card grade into recruitment points using the following fixed scale:
- Grade 6 (celujący — excellent): 18 points
- Grade 5 (bardzo dobry — very good): 17 points
- Grade 4 (dobry — good): 14 points
- Grade 3 (dostateczny — satisfactory): 8 points
- Grade 2 (dopuszczający — acceptable): 2 points
- Grade 1 (niedostateczny — failing): 0 points
Which Subjects Count as the Four Graded Subjects?
Polish and Mathematics are always two of the four graded subjects. Each high school program (oddział) independently selects the remaining two subjects and announces them before applications open in the Warsaw Nabór electronic system. Common choices for additional subjects include biology, chemistry, physics, history, and geography, depending on the school profile. Verify the specific subject requirements for each target program at the Warsaw City Hall Education portal before submitting an application.
Worked Calculation Example
Consider a student with the following results:
- Polish exam: 85% → 85 × 0.35 = 29.75 pts
- Mathematics exam: 78% → 78 × 0.35 = 27.30 pts
- Foreign Language exam: 92% → 92 × 0.30 = 27.60 pts
- Exam subtotal: 84.65 points
- Polish grade 5 = 17 pts; Math grade 4 = 14 pts; Subject 3 grade 5 = 17 pts; Subject 4 grade 5 = 17 pts. Grade total: 65 points
- Honors certificate: Yes — 7 points
- Competition achievements: 12 points
- Volunteer activity documented: Yes — 3 points
Final score: 84.65 + 65 + 7 + 12 + 3 = 171.65 points — a competitive result placing this student within range of many Warsaw high school programs.
Maximum Score Summary
The 200-point ceiling breaks down as: 35 (Polish exam at 100%) + 35 (Math exam at 100%) + 30 (Foreign Language exam at 100%) + 72 (four grades of 6) + 7 (honors certificate) + 18 (achievements, capped) + 3 (volunteer) = 200 points total.
Regulatory and Methodological Sources
This calculator applies the formula from the official recruitment regulations published by the Mazowieckie Kuratorium Oświaty and the admissions guidance issued by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science. Annual cutoff thresholds are published at the Warsaw City Hall Education Office portal after each recruitment round closes. Always verify current-year formula coefficients against official publications, as regulatory updates can affect weighting values or point caps.
